Where Is Cyclooxygenase Found in the Body?
There are actually two forms of the cyclooxygenase enzyme: COX-1 and COX-2.

Both are involved in inflammation, but only COX-1 has a beneficial effect on the body as well.
Both COX-1 and COX-2 produce the prostaglandins that contribute to pain, fever, and inflammation.
This is because they’re non-selective, meaning they inhibit both forms of cyclooxygenase.
COX-2 inhibitors target pain and inflammation with fewer gastrointestinal side effects.
If you simply need pain relief, Tylenol (acetaminophen) may be considered instead.
