Hypomania vs. Mania

Hypomania is less overwhelming and less intense than mania.

Hypomanic symptoms can last anywhere for a few hours or days or weeks.

If they persist for four days or more, you may be experiencing ahypomanic episode.

Sometimes, this may lead to a depressive episode.

You might find yourself staying up later than usual or getting up earlier.

It might be difficult to focus on details during the day and to fall asleep at night.

They may also talk a lot or have speech that seems pressured.

Others experienceirritability, impatience, and anger during hypomania.

They might be easily annoyed and snap at others, or feel like life isnt moving fast enough.

Some people feel like their thoughts are racing and out of control.

During a hypomanic episode, a person may have less patience than usual and even lash out at others.

However, they are also more likely to experiencemood swingsand volatility in their relationships.

Hypomania may also turn into mania, which can disrupt day-to-day functioning.

You may also be more easily distracted and impulsive than usual.

Some people also have trouble falling asleep and staying on task.

Your provider can help determine the cause and start you on appropriate treatments.
