A recent clinical trial was conducted in China with 124 participates who had MASH but no history of diabetes.

They were given either 300 mg of vitamin E daily or a placebo for 96 weeks.

They also received dietary and exercise recommendations throughout the study period, which are typically part of MASH treatment.

Can Vitamin E Treat MASH?

Vitamin E isnt widely used as a treatment for MASH.

A 2024 systematic review suggested that vitamin E moderately reduced markers of liver inflammation.

While this supplement didnt reduceliver scarring (fibrosis), it increased the rate of MASH resolution.

However, most participants didnt resolve MASH or fibrosis.

The trial also didnt test for the long-term safety of vitamin E use.

The trial was also small and had a significant dropout rate.

While the study was interesting, its unlikely to change our current management of MASH, Shetty said.

Experts say supplementation is not a substitute for approved treatments like Rezdiffra or lifestyle changes.
