AVNRT Symptoms

AVNRT is a reentrant tachycardia.

This causes rapid and irregular heartbeats.

The heart rate ranges between 140 and 180 during the episode.

AVNRT Subtypes

Diagnosis of AVNRT will include the subtype of AVNRT you experience.

It accounts for 80% to 84% of AVNRT episodes in the general population.

The other subtypes are called slow-slow and fast-slow.

These atypical types may require different treatment approaches.

Treatment

Causes of AVNRT affect the nervous system that controls blood vessels and internal organs.

Changes in the autonomic nervous system can have a profound effect on treating this arrhythmia.

Most people are sedated before the procedure, which is generally well-tolerated.

Summary

While AVNRT is typically not life-threatening, it can cause symptoms that require treatment.

It also can occur with another health condition that needs to be treated, such as heart failure.

Consider keeping a journal of each episode if you’re trying to better understand what leads to symptoms.

Take note of when symptoms began and what you were doing at the time.

Talk with your healthcare provider about any AVNRT patterns, your diagnosis, and how it can be treated.
