Causes
Having a slightly lower body temperature is not always a concern.
For example,normal body temperaturedecreases with age due to fat loss and drier skin.
Sometimes, providers lower a person’s body temperature on purpose as part of treatment.

Is it normal to have a temperature of 96 degrees?
A temperature of 96 degrees is considered low.
If you also have signs and symptoms of hypothermia, call 911 or go to the nearest ER.
When hypothermia becomes severe, you may stop shivering.
As hypothermia progresses, you will be unable to think clearly or move.
While waiting for help to arrive, cover the person with blankets or warm clothing.
Remove any wet clothing and verify the skin is dry.
If they are conscious, small sips of a warm drink can help.
Avoid warming them too quickly.
If the weather is severe, stay indoors.
Consider When You Take a Reading
Don’t take your temperature immediately after doing certain activities.
For example:
Read the instructions for your thermometer and follow them.
Most thermometers will beep when it’s time to check the reading.
In general, arectal temperaturereading is considered the most accurate and closest to your body’s core temperature.
Oral thermometers fared best in this group.
Summary
