Gingival hyperplasia is a condition of the mouth that leads to overgrowth of the gums.
People with this condition have gums that appear puffy and swollen.
In severe cases, the gums may completely cover the teeth.

Inflammatory Gingival Hyperplasia

When plaque accumulates on the teeth, it can cause the gums to become swollen and tender.
Affected gums may bleed easily.
Inflammatory gingival enlargement can often be corrected with improved brushing and flossing and regular dental care.
Systemic Gingival Hyperplasia
Gingival hyperplasia can sometimes have systemic causes.
The severity of the condition can vary from case to case.
